Dr. Gelrud is a graduate of the Central University of Venezuela. Dr. Gelrud completed his Internal Medicine Residency, Chief Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship from Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Gelrud completed a Research Fellowship at the Brigham & Woman's Hospital of the Harvard Medical School in Boston.
From 2001 through 2006, Dr. Gelrud was an Assistant Clinical Professor of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He was the Director of Interventional Endoscopy at Jacobi Medical Center and was an Endoscopic Ultrasound attending at Montefiore Medical Center.
Dr. Gelrud's main interests are GI oncology, biliary endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of the abdomen and mediastinum. Dr. Gelrud has extensive experience in the staging of lung, esophageal, rectal and pancreatic cancer, also expertise in the work up of pancreatic cysts and EUS-guided celiac plexus neurolysis for severe cancer-related abdominal pain.
Dr. Gelrud is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Florida International University (FIU). He is the Gastrointestinal System Course Director for the Medical School.
