HalfLytely Preparation for Procedures Before 10:00 AM

(For Procedures Scheduled Before 10:00 AM) 

One week prior to your procedure do not take the following medications: Aspirin or Aspirin containing products, Arthritis medication, Anticoagulants (blood-thinners)(i.e.: Coumadin, Plavix, Aggrenox, Ginko, Vitamin E), Analgesics (i.e.: Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Voltaren, Naprosyn, Anaprox, Celebrex) and Indocin. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is ALLOWED. However, you must take your other medications each day, including the preparation day and the procedure day, with a small amount of water.

The day before your Colonoscopy:

  • In the morning, mix the powder in the jug with water thoroughly according to the instructions on the package. The solution may be chilled in the refrigerator. Do not add ice or flavorings.
  • Drink only clear liquids for breakfast lunch and dinner (water, broth, coffee, tea, sodas, popsicles, italian ice, Gatorade, Kool-aid, apple juice, other strained fruit juices without the pulp, hard candy, Jello). Avoid drinks that are red or purple in color. Do not drink milk. Drink as much clear liquids as possible during the day. Do not eat vegetables or soups containing vegetables or beans.
  • Drink at least 5 glasses of clear liquids before taking the Bisacodyl tablets.
  • At 12:00 p.m. (noon) take the two (2) Bisacodyl tablets with water. Do not chew or crush. Do not take within 1 hour of taking an antacid medication.
  • At 6:00 p.m. begin drinking the solution. Drink one 8 oz. glass every 10-15 minutes (about 8 glasses). Drink all of the solution.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after 12:00 a.m. (midnight) the night before the colonoscopy (except for your allowed medications).
